Course Overview
Running Containers on Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (Amazon EKS) is an intermediate-level AWS classroom training course focused on container management and Kubernetes orchestration using Amazon EKS. Participants learn how Amazon EKS manages Kubernetes environments and gain practical experience building and configuring EKS clusters, deploying applications, and managing container images with Amazon Elastic Container Registry (Amazon ECR).
The course covers application deployment and automation using CI/CD and GitOps, observability through metrics, logs, and tracing, and approaches to scaling and optimizing EKS environments for efficiency, resilience, and cost. It also addresses AWS networking, IAM and Kubernetes RBAC, secure workflows, secrets management, and Kubernetes and Amazon EKS upgrades.
Course Objective
- Describe Kubernetes fundamentals, including container orchestration, Kubernetes objects, and Kubernetes internals.
- Explain the architecture and key components of Amazon EKS, including the control plane, data plane, security, and Amazon EKS API.
- Build an Amazon EKS cluster and configure the environment and worker nodes.
- Deploy applications to Amazon EKS and manage container images using Amazon ECR.
- Deploy applications using Helm, continuous deployment, and GitOps approaches.
- Configure observability using metrics, logs, and application tracing, and use monitoring data to support performance tuning and automatic scaling.
- Evaluate approaches for balancing efficiency, resilience, and cost optimization in Amazon EKS environments.
- Configure AWS networking services, manage IP space, and support communication within Amazon EKS clusters.
- Implement authentication and authorization using AWS IAM and Kubernetes RBAC, including pod permissions.
- Implement secure EKS workflows and manage cluster endpoint access, host and network security, secrets, and Kubernetes version upgrades.

- Completed AWS Cloud Practitioner Essentials or equivalent real-world experience
- Basic Linux administration experience
