Course Overview
Cloud Operations on AWS is an intermediate-level course focused on managing and operating automatable, repeatable deployments of networks and systems on AWS. The course covers core cloud operations functions including installation, configuration, automation, monitoring, security, maintenance, troubleshooting, and resource management.
The course provides practical coverage of AWS services and tools used for operational excellence, access management, resource discovery, deployment automation, high availability, scaling, monitoring, auditing, networking, storage, backup and recovery, and cost optimization. It includes presentations, demonstrations, hands-on labs, and a capstone lab. AWS currently lists Cloud Operations on AWS as an intermediate, 3-day classroom course within its Operations training portfolio.
Course Objective
- Identify AWS services that support the different phases of Operational Excellence within the AWS Well-Architected Framework.
- Manage access to AWS resources using AWS accounts, AWS Organizations, and AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM).
- Maintain an inventory of AWS resources using AWS Systems Manager, AWS CloudTrail, and AWS Config.
- Develop resource deployment strategies using metadata tags, Amazon Machine Images (AMIs), and AWS Control Tower.
- Automate resource deployment using AWS CloudFormation and AWS Service Catalog.
- Manage AWS resources through deployment, patching, and other CloudOps lifecycle processes.
- Configure highly available environments using Amazon Route 53 and Elastic Load Balancing.
- Configure AWS Auto Scaling and Amazon EC2 Auto Scaling to respond to changing demand.
- Monitor and maintain AWS infrastructure and applications using Amazon CloudWatch and related monitoring capabilities.
- Manage networking, storage, backup, recovery, security auditing, and AWS cost optimization using appropriate AWS services.
Pre-requisites
- Successfully completed the AWS Technical Essentials course.
- Background in software development or systems administration.
- Proficiency in maintaining operating systems from the command line, including Linux shell scripting or Windows cmd/PowerShell.
- Basic knowledge of networking protocols such as TCP/IP and HTTP.
