Course Overview

This hands-on course covers containerization and Kubernetes orchestration using AWS services, progressing from Docker and Amazon ECS fundamentals to advanced Amazon EKS administration and operations. The curriculum covers container images, DockerHub, Amazon ECR, AWS CLI, CloudFormation, EKS cluster architecture, worker nodes, Kubernetes administration, RBAC, IAM, Fargate, Helm, application deployment, scaling, storage, logging, monitoring, networking, and security.

The course also introduces advanced EKS capabilities including Prometheus and Grafana monitoring, CloudWatch Container Insights, and Istio service mesh. Practical exercises form a major part of the delivery methodology, with participants expected to complete guided labs throughout the program.

Course Objective

  • Understand Docker containers, images, DockerHub, Amazon ECR, and container fundamentals
  • Configure and work with Amazon EKS using AWS CLI, eksctl, and kubectl
  • Understand Amazon EKS architecture, clusters, worker nodes, and Kubernetes components
  • Manage Kubernetes access using RBAC, RoleBindings, IAM roles, and groups
  • Deploy applications and Spring microservices to Amazon EKS
  • Configure application scaling, including HPA, Cluster Autoscaler, and Spot Instances
  • Manage Kubernetes storage, StatefulSets, health checks, tolerations, and Helm charts
  • Configure EKS networking, ingress, network policies, VPC, and CNI capabilities
  • Implement EKS monitoring, logging, security, and secrets management
  • Understand and deploy Istio service mesh applications, including service versions and intelligent routing

Pre-requisites

Participants should have either completed Technical Essentials training or have at least one year of AWS experience as a user or developer. Programming experience in Java, .NET, PHP, Node.js, Python, or similar technologies is expected. Familiarity with web servers, basic operating-system concepts, Linux commands, Docker and container concepts, Kubernetes, VI/VIM/NANO, RDBMS, remote database connectivity, DDL, and DML is also required.
