Architecting on AWS

Architecting on AWS is an intermediate 3-day course covering AWS architecture, security, networking, compute, storage, databases, automation, containers, serverless, edge services, and backup and recovery through practical labs.

Course Overview

Architecting on AWS is an intermediate-level course designed for solutions architects, solution-design engineers, and developers seeking to build resilient, secure, and highly available IT solutions on the AWS Cloud. The course emphasizes AWS architectural best practices and the AWS Well-Architected Framework through use cases, discussions, demonstrations, assessments, and hands-on labs.

The course covers account security, networking, compute, storage, databases, monitoring and scaling, automation, containers, serverless architecture, edge services, and backup and recovery. Participants apply these concepts through practical labs, including building VPC infrastructure, creating database and highly available architectures, developing a serverless architecture, configuring CloudFront, and completing a multi-tier architecture capstone.

Course Objective

  • Identify fundamental AWS architecting practices and apply the AWS Well-Architected Framework.
  • Summarize fundamental AWS account security concepts, including principals, identities, and security policies.
  • Identify strategies for building secure virtual networks with public and private subnets.
  • Practice building multi-tier and highly available architectures using AWS services.
  • Identify appropriate compute resources and services based on business use cases.
  • Compare AWS storage and database services based on business requirements.
  • Identify monitoring, load balancing, and auto scaling strategies for AWS architectures.
  • Identify AWS automation and infrastructure management tools for building and maintaining infrastructure.
  • Discuss hybrid networking, VPC peering, gateway, and routing solutions for extending and securing infrastructure.
  • Explore AWS container, serverless, edge, backup, and recovery services for resilient cloud architectures.

Pre-requisites

Recommended prerequisites include completion of AWS Cloud Practitioner Essentials or AWS Technical Essentials, working knowledge of distributed systems and multi-tier architectures, familiarity with general networking concepts and IP addressing, and familiarity with cloud computing concepts.
