Course Overview

This two-day training course provides an understanding of ISO/IEC 42001:2023 requirements and the principles and practices of internal auditing for an Artificial Intelligence Management System (AIMS). It covers the structure and interpretation of the standard, including Clauses 4 to 10, organizational context, leadership, planning, support, operation, performance evaluation, and improvement.

The course explores AI-specific risks and controls, including bias, transparency, fairness, ethical AI governance, and legal obligations. Participants learn the fundamentals of internal auditing based on ISO 19011, including audit planning, evidence collection, interviewing, sampling, identifying nonconformities, and preparing audit reports.

The training also covers corrective actions, root cause analysis, audit follow-up, and closure. Practical exercises, mock audit interviews, report-writing activities, an AI implementation case study, and an examination are included in the course outline.

Course Objective

  • Explain the purpose, objectives, benefits, scope, and applicability of ISO/IEC 42001:2023.
  • Interpret Clauses 4 to 10 of ISO/IEC 42001 and understand the Annex SL structure.
  • Identify AI-specific risks and controls relating to bias, transparency, fairness, ethical governance, and legal obligations.
  • Describe internal audit principles, audit types, and auditor roles and responsibilities based on ISO 19011.
  • Prepare risk-based audit plans by defining audit criteria, scope, and required documentation.
  • Conduct audit opening meetings, interviews, evidence collection, and sampling activities.
  • Identify, classify, and document nonconformities using objective evidence and traceable findings.
  • Prepare internal audit reports and communicate audit results effectively.
  • Explain root cause analysis, corrective and preventive action (CAPA), audit closure, and follow-up audits.
  • Apply auditing concepts through mock interviews, evidence collection, nonconformity reporting, and AI implementation case studies.

Pre-requisites

  • Basic understanding of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its applications is recommended.
  • Familiarity with organizational processes, management systems, and risk management is beneficial.
  • Basic awareness of ISO standards and auditing principles is helpful but not mandatory.
  • Prior experience implementing ISO/IEC 42001 or conducting internal audits is not mandatory.
