Course Overview
This one-day awareness training course introduces ISO/IEC 42001:2023, the international standard for establishing, implementing, maintaining, and continually improving an Artificial Intelligence Management System (AIMS). It explains the context and need for AI management systems, their benefits, key terminology, and alignment with other management system standards, including ISO 9001 and ISO/IEC 27001.
The course covers the structure and clauses of ISO/IEC 42001, organizational context, leadership, AI policies, governance, risk-based planning, and AI lifecycle controls. Participants explore key requirements relating to data management, ethical considerations, transparency, explainability, bias mitigation, fairness, human oversight, accountability, and legal and regulatory compliance.
The training also addresses operational controls, competence, documentation, performance evaluation, internal audits, management reviews, corrective actions, continual improvement, and the certification process. It provides an overview of the activities organizations should consider when establishing and maintaining an effective AIMS.
Course Objective
- Explain the purpose, scope, and benefits of ISO/IEC 42001:2023.
- Identify the context, need, and key terminology of an Artificial Intelligence Management System (AIMS).
- Describe the High-Level Structure (Annex SL) and the clause-by-clause overview of ISO/IEC 42001.
- Explain how AIMS integrates with existing management systems, including ISO 9001 and ISO/IEC 27001.
- Identify organizational context, leadership responsibilities, stakeholder expectations, and AI governance requirements.
- Describe AI risk and opportunity assessment, AI policies, and AI lifecycle planning and controls.
- Explain data management, ethical considerations, transparency, explainability, bias mitigation, and fairness in AI systems.
- Describe human oversight, accountability, and legal and regulatory compliance considerations.
- Explain operational controls, competence, documentation, monitoring, measurement, internal audits, and management reviews.
- Describe nonconformity management, corrective actions, continual improvement, and the AI management system certification process.
Pre-requisites
- Basic understanding of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its applications is recommended.
- General awareness of organizational management systems and business processes is helpful.
- Familiarity with risk management, information security, or data governance is beneficial but not mandatory.
- No prior experience implementing ISO/IEC 42001 is required.
