Advanced Developing on AWS focuses on modernizing monolithic applications into cloud native microservices architectures using AWS. The course covers serverless development, migration, DevOps, messaging, resilience, security, observability, and automated deployment.

Course Overview

Advanced Developing on AWS is a three-day advanced course for experienced software developers who are familiar with AWS services. The course uses the scenario of refactoring a legacy, on-premises monolithic application into a serverless, microservices-based architecture.

The course covers cloud-native architecture, migration using the Six Rs, the Twelve-Factor Application methodology, DevOps and CI/CD, microservices, serverless development, polyglot persistence, distributed complexity, messaging, resilience, security, and observability. Participants work with AWS services and development tools including AWS Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, Amazon SQS, Amazon SNS, Amazon Kinesis Streams, Amazon Cognito, AWS CloudFormation, and AWS Secrets Manager. The source also includes presentations, group exercises, demonstrations, and hands-on labs.

Course Objective

  • Analyze a monolithic application architecture to identify logical or programmatic break points for decomposition across AWS services.
  • Apply Twelve-Factor Application concepts while migrating from a monolithic architecture.
  • Recommend appropriate AWS services for developing microservices-based, cloud-native applications.
  • Use AWS APIs, the AWS CLI, and AWS SDKs to monitor and manage AWS services.
  • Apply the Six Rs of migration when transitioning a monolithic application to a microservices architecture.
  • Explain the SysOps and DevOps interdependencies required to deploy microservices applications on AWS.
  • Develop microservices using AWS Lambda and Amazon API Gateway.
  • Apply DynamoDB best practices and address distributed complexity using AWS services such as Step Functions.
  • Design resilient and scalable applications using AWS messaging and event-driven services.
  • Apply security, authentication, debugging, traceability, and automated deployment concepts to microservices applications.

Pre-requisites

  • In-depth knowledge of at least one high-level programming language.
  • Working knowledge of core AWS services and public cloud implementation.
  • Completion of Developing on AWS classroom training, followed by a minimum of six months applying those concepts in a real-world environment.
